About

Keto Etefa Gemechu

I'm an AI Product Engineer building production-grade systems where machine learning meets real-world execution. I operate at the intersection of AI, backend infrastructure, and product thinking, delivering scalable solutions across robotics, blockchain, healthcare, and education.

Beyond engineering, I share what I build and learn through writing and content creation. I believe strong engineering is not just about shipping code. It is about building products that meaningfully improve people's lives.

Early Life

Keto Etefa Gemechu - Graduation Ceremony
Keto Etefa Gemechu - Class of 2025

I was born and raised in Gambella, Ethiopia, a historically under-resourced region near the South Sudan border. Access to opportunity was limited, but my curiosity was not.

Through determination, relentless curiosity, and the leverage of technology, I became the first person in my family to attend college and the first from my region to study abroad, earning a full scholarship to Pomona College in Claremont, California. That journey reshaped how I see the world.

Growing up where opportunity was scarce taught me something fundamental: technology is a powerful equalizer. A laptop, an internet connection, and the right tools can collapse geography, expand access, and create paths that once felt unreachable. That belief drives my work today.

How I Operate as an Engineer

Systems-Oriented AI Builder

Turn complex ideas into production systems

I build AI-driven products that move from concept to deployment. From ML-powered robotics validation to distributed blockchain clients and backend healthcare systems, I focus on performance, reliability, and measurable outcomes. I think in systems, not just features, ensuring architecture decisions support long-term scale.

Opportunity-Driven Technologist

Build technology that expands access

Growing up in an under-resourced region shaped how I build. I see technology as leverage. Whether developing AI tools for college access or designing backend systems that reduce operational friction, I prioritize products that create opportunity and solve real-world problems.

Engineer Who Builds in Public

Communicate ideas, not just code

I believe engineering excellence compounds when shared. Through writing, LinkedIn posts, and content creation, I break down technical trade-offs, system design decisions, and lessons learned while building. My goal is to make complex engineering ideas accessible and actionable for others.

Founder

ClaRentMont

Building Infrastructure for Student Housing in Claremont

ClaRentMont began as a response to a fragmented housing search experience across the Claremont Colleges. Students relied on scattered Facebook groups and word-of-mouth to find off-campus housing. I defined the MVP, validated market demand through structured interviews, and onboarded the first 20 users organically. By centralizing listings and improving discovery workflows, the platform increased housing search efficiency by 40% compared to existing informal channels.

  • Defined MVP and validated market demand through structured interviews
  • Onboarded 20 initial users organically
  • Increased housing search efficiency by 40%
  • Designed to scale to 6,000+ students
